Conductor

Taavi Kull has been conductor at the Vanemuine theatre in Tartu since 2014. He completed his studies at Tallinn Music High School (Tallinna Muusikakeskkool) in 2004, where he studied piano and choral conducting. This was followed by time studying choral and orchestral conducting at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre (Eesti Muusika ja Teatriakadeemia), supervised by Toomas Kapten and Paul Mägi.

In 2010, Taavi enrolled on a master’s programme at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm under the guidance of Daniel Harding and Professor Cecilia Rydinger-Alin. Taavi has participated in masterclasses held by Neeme and Paavo Järvi, as well as by Roland Zollman and Lutz Köhler. He has conducted several orchestras, such as the Norrlandsoperan Symphony Orchestra, Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Darlarna Sinfonietta, Västeros Sinfonietta, and Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. In spring 2015, Taavi debuted with the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra as part of the Estonian Music Days programme.

Taavi has been assistant conductor for performances of “Wozzeck”, “La Bohéme”, “Peter Grimes”, and “Carmen” (Vanemuine 2015). At Vanemuine he has been assistant musical director and conducted several works, including the operas “Rehepapp” (2013) and “The Parson of Reigi” (2014), the operetta “An Evening with Strauss”, and the children’s musicals “Detective Lotte” and “Nukitsamees”. As musical director he organised and conducted the operatic programme “An Evening with Kálmán” (2015). He has been musical director for various operas and chamber operas, for example, the premiere of Age Veeroos’s “Grid” in Berlin and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre’s contemporary opera “Frequently Asked Questions”.

Taavi Kull has been conductor of TÜSO since 2016.
