Meeting the composer: an educational journey into Estonian music with Liina Sumera

Toimumise aeg:
21. aprill ja 28. aprill 2025

The University of Tartu Symphony Orchestra invites you to its spring concert, which this time showcases the works of two Estonian composers. In addition to the musical performances, we welcome composer Liina Sumera to the stage to discuss the process of composing music, its joys, and its challenges.

The concert will feature the world premiere of Lõõm, a piece specially composed by Liina Sumera for the University of Tartu Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, we will perform a suite from the film The Secret Society of Souptown, showcasing one of her earlier works. The composer will be joining us to engage in conversation with conductor Taavi Kull about her compositions and creative process.

The programme also includes Sinfonietta on Estonian Motifs by Eduard Tubin, one of Estonia’s greatest symphonists. This time, we will present the full composition – at our previous spring concert we performed just one part of it.

Every piece of music reflects its creator – Tubin’s compositions are imbued with folk melodies, while Sumera’s works evoke a cinematic atmosphere. Alongside the music, the audience will have the opportunity to engage in discussions, make discoveries, and perhaps even hear some humorous anecdotes from real life.

Concert dates:
April 21 at 19:00 – Põlva Cultural Centre (Main Hall)
April 28 at 19:00 – University of Tartu Assembly Hall

Tickets: 15€/10€ available on site and via Fienta: https://fienta.com/et/s/kohtumine-heliloojaga-hariduslik-retk-eesti-muus...
